Rammed Earth House*

Corte Madera

This spectacular 17,000 s.f. residence uses rammed earth walls, zinc roofs and bronze-clad windows from Italy to create a building capable of lasting a century or more.  A project like this requires a talented team.  Sim Van der Ryn led the schematic design team that included Nancy Malone and Cate Leger.  Pete Retondo's role was to run the project from design development stage through construction.  If you look at the model carefully you can see why this is called the "Guitar House." Featured in articles in the New York Times and the Marin Independent Journal.
